Pompey Supporters Trust appointed as preferred bidders for Portsmouth FC
4:25pm Thursday 18th October 2012 in Hampshire Sport
Fratton Park
Pompey's administrators have nominated Portsmouth Supporters Trust as their preferred bidder to take over the beleaguered League One club.
PKF have been seeking a new buyer for the club since it was placed under its control in February with debts of £61million.
Trevor Birch, PKF partner and joint administrator of Portsmouth, said in a statement: ''After extensive discussions over the past few weeks, we have today nominated Portsmouth Supporters Trust as the preferred bidder for Portsmouth Football Club.
''We will be working with the Trust, the Football League and the Professional Footballers' Association to conclude the sale of the club as soon as possible.''
PST's emergence as the favoured bidder appears to rule out Balram Chainrai's claims that his company, Portpin, will be the club's new owners.
The Hong Kong-based businessman spoke out last week to deny claims that the Football League had expressed concerns over his suitability.
He said in a statement: ''Our discussions with the Football League have been positive and are progressing.
''As far as we are aware we have satisfied the majority of the criteria and we expect now to work through the last remaining points with the Football League in the coming days.
''We are very confident that we are in a position to complete the acquisition of Portsmouth Football club in the near future.''
Chainrai was at the helm when Pompey went into administration in 2010 and it is thought he could have been involved when they were placed back in administration eight months ago.
The rules of the Owners and Directors test stipulates that a person who has twice been involved with a club going into administration cannot become an owner or director.
Despite the PST's new position as the administrators' preferred bidder, it is likely Chainrai will contest any takeover as he is owed £18million by the south coast club and holds Fratton Park as security.

Do you think Chainrai will kick them out, sell the ground for redevelopment, to spite them?
He will not take this lying down.

I feel sorry for the administrator previously having to choose between Portpin and the PST.
It's like being asked "How would you like to die? Bubonic Plague or Lassa fever?"

Saints fans you pay between £38- £50 a game and just paid out 12 million for ramirez on probably £40 000 a week you had many fans on radio solent saying they have been priced out of attending games. you should form a supporters trust to keep your future safe !

Agreed some fans have been priced out and there are couple of thousand empty seats. (this is happening at most EPL clubs)
Pompey fans have been priced IN and half the ground is empty.
As I say no real comparison, we are miles apart now and under the PST the gap will continue to get bigger.

Yes that's about right for watching Division 3 football, if I was you I would be very worried, charging that sort of price will not buy any decent players for you, all you will get is end of life crap and teenagers, also you will have to pay inflated rent to stay at Fratton Park and that's if it does not become a tesco superstore, the supporters trust will be ground sharing with Havant & Waterloovile, and by then will be in the same league with no funds..... Happy thoughts :-D

Unfortunately Pompey owners decided to gamble on geting revenue streams in without having the infrastructure in place.
As a Pompey fan I hope the trust takes its time and builds the right infrastructure so we can grow and meet Saints in the Prem on a stable footing.
I love derby days, banter is amazing!

In your previous administration your fans did not have the will or desire to save your club by forming a supporters bid your fans could of lost your club if the gentleman who died did not come in and save your club sadly he died and you have cortesse and le tissier having a battle of words now !
