Bristow left speechless by Basingstoke Town's terrible showing

BASINGSTOKE Town manager Jason Bristow was left speechless by his side’s performance as they slumped to a 5-2 defeat away at Weston-super-Mare on Saturday.

The game was essentially over inside the first 20 minutes as Town gifted their hosts three goals. More mistakes followed in the second half, allowing Weston to make it 5-0 before Stefan Brown and Delano Sam-Yorke netted late consolation goals for the visitors.

Bristow said: “I am lost for words to be honest. We cannot defend the way we did in the first 20 minutes.

“It does not matter what you are working towards if you gift the opposition three goals. It was all too easy.”

The defeat was Basingstoke’s fifth in their last seven league games, a run that has seen them drop into the Blue Square Bet South relegation zone.

“We have got to look at things because we are on a terrible run,” Bristow added. “I would like to think today is a one-off in terms of performance because up until today, the performances have been good enough to make us think good results are around the corner.

“We have to stop the rot and put this behind us. It is up to us to go away and think about how we do that.”
