SOME of Saints' final day survival battlers face an anxious wait to discover if they will reap the rewards of Championship safety.
Saints have a whole host of players out of contract this summer, including three who started in the dramatic 3-2 win over Sheffield United on Sunday, and numerous others whose loan deals are ending and who will return to their parent clubs.
Contract talks have understandably had to take a back seat in recent weeks as the club waited to discover in which division they would find themselves next season.
Nigel Pearson has drawn up a list of those he would like to see offered extended deals but, with the leadership of the club still up in the air, even progressing with that this week could prove to be hard work.
Saints chairman Leon Crouch, who, if he stays at Saints, has backed Pearson to remain in charge is waiting to hear if investment talks will produce any results this week while the board looks set to change next week with Rupert Lowe and Michael Wilde returning to the club.

as much as i have been bored of this whole story, now the season is over i just want everything to be resolved asap. i have no idea whether the stories of investment are true but either way it all needs to be decided. we need a settled squad and manager by the end of this month otherwise players out of contract will leave, others will want to leave and next season relegation will be settled before a dramatic last day.

Don't expect this to be settled any time soon. None of the Wr's at the top could manage their way out of a wet paper bag even if their lives depended on it. They'd be too busy manouvering for position and stabbing each other in the back. Expect a lot more crap before it all settles down.

Crew 657, you seem to have missed the point of the article entirely. Where does it say that the people of Millbrook or Sholing are heroes? It says, very clearly, that the players who saved Saints from relegation to the third division (as experienced by you in the not too distant past) are the heroes. Seriously, can there be that little in your life that you get kicks by responding to every article on Saints with anger and resentment? I know I should dumb some of these big words down for you, but you can always get a dictionary if you get stuck. Go back to The News site and leave us in peace. Retard.

Heroes?
What rubbish.
A word that is used too much for menial things.
A few men kicking a ball about are not heroes.
Saving a life, fighting in war and similiar are acts of heroism.
Football players are just a bunch of people who struggle to make a proper sentence, over paid, and fame seeking no hopers who are not worthy of being called a hero.

As a Southampton Leisure Holdings shareholder, I have been sent a form of proxy so that I can vote on the ordinary resolutions...
1) Remove crouch y/n
2) Remove Hoos y/n
3) Remove Trant y/n
4) Remove Wiseman y/n
5) Appoint Cowen y/n
6) Appoint Lowe y/n
7) Appoint Wild y/n
I'm really not sure what to do here, does anyone have any sensible advice?

None of these saints players deserved to be carried off. Ok they won an important game but they should be reminded that all the games are important and all carry the same 3 points. If they played with the same bottle the rest of the season perhaps we could have celebrated a promotion instead of survival. So come on get real we were lucky, lets hope the board sort themselves out quickly not drag it out now we know what league were in. SFC need to pull together in a hurry to sort finances...players..
.managers....so we can re.build ......re group...and maybe get off to a flyer next year to get momentum so that the fans..city..get a lift after this season of dour...rubbish...foo
tball. The fans have done there part SFC noe we ask the club to sort themselves out before then end of MAY.

It took a long time for Pompey to turn things around, with many false dawns.
Be realistic, don't think that avoiding relegation to Division 1 means that everything at St Mary's is rosy and bright!
The majority of problems that have been there all season, are still there!

If Lowe is reinstated and Pearson goes it will just give me yet another reason to loathe the Duck Hunter. Rupert Lowe will never reunite the fans of our club. He is devisive. Somehow he must be made history as far as this club is concerned.

Sam, I see you have been busy today, I expect your wife has been celebrating this weekend being a true Saint and all, I must say I prefer the word 'Saviour' to 'Hero' however there is an entry in the dictionary that you have missed...
Football Hero
noun
a football player who has achieved a reputation for success
Can this be said for the Skates over the years?

Lets look at the actual story here instead of getting embroiled in a debate with Crew 657 (whom we all know to be a complete idiot).
There will be players leaving this summer... to my knowledge:
Nathan Dyer - will be leaving for a tribunal fee to Portsmouth... This is disappointing as I fear he will not see too much playing time there, we have invested hugely in him and also he offers much future promise.
Claus - Retired... good servant.. thankyou.
Makin - Retired...
Powell - must go... too injury prone.
Licka - Out of contract... I would like us to keep him....
Idiakez - larger earner, old and not going to cut it next season
Rasiak - will be sold
Skacel - will be sold (hopefully)
Ostlund - I believe his contract may be out this summer... Pity as I like the width he gives in attack.
Surman/Llalana - possibly be sold... but hopefully not!... both have big futures.
BWP - could be sold as has attracted the wrong type of attention...
Viafara - could be sold.... again not good as will go to another promotion hopeful if he does.
I hope that we get past the squabbling... keep as many of the few good players as we can, ship out the bad ones... and maybe even get one or two in...
Fingers crossed - lets look for a brigfhter future!

[/quote] So you would prefer the word 'Saviour' 'a person who rescues another person or a thing from danger or harm'!
Would that really apply, when the 'danger' or 'harm' that your team/club found itself in, was self-inflicted?
I must admit that I do not possess a 'Janner' dictionary, which I believe also has pictures to colour in, but mine does not contain 'Football Hero'!
With the definition you give, there would certainly appear to have been a dearth of 'Football Heroes' as SMS for a few seasons!
Any approaching that description have long since been sold!
I think that, if you have read these posts as thoroughly as I have, you would find that the vast majority of 'SFC Fans' that post on here, think that Football Heroes wearing red and white stripes, have been conspicuous by their absence!
Pompey players with a reputation for success?
Campbell, James, Defoe, Johnson for a start - all with the club NOW!

I can't beleive what I'm reading here: As NP stated himself, "...escaping relegation from the Championship on the final day is not something that should be treated as particularly terrific". We should not have been there anyway. YES OF COURSE, I'm very pleased that we stayed up but come on guys... NP is NOT the right guy to take us on; he was the cheap option anyway and these players should be really embarrassed for what they haven't acheived. We really need Mr Lowe to make good the finances; get rid of £8k/week BWP and others on extreme wages; sell some of the wasters and then find a decent and proven manager with good expereince and a decent track record. We have a lot of work to do during the close season. COYS!!

I've been a Saints fan for 30 years. Re Crew657 and the like - don't rise to the bait! Just ignore the comments. In the end, without a response, they will just get tired and go back to where they came from! Believe it or not there are Pompey fans out there, because I know a few of them, who want to see their team do battle with Saints on the pitch and not on these pages trading pointless insults to loyal Saints supporters. Getting back to the story (instead of feeding the Troll crew)
Here is my take on our players this season: This is my opinions and I fully expect them to not fit into anyone elses way of thinking!
EVERYONE LOVES TO HATE ‘EM
[bold]K Davies:[/bold] at very least a good number two keeper. [bold]J Wright[/bold]: better under Pearson, we should keep him as he is a decent utility player at this level. [bold]Euell:[/bold] Again been better under Pearson, surely he hasn’t reached his full potential at SFC?
SIGN ‘EM UP
[bold]R Wright:[/bold] One of the best if not the best in the league definitely a premier league keeper. Our chances of keeping him? Slim to nil! [bold]G Vignal:[/bold] One of the better players in the second half of the year. I Can’t help but feel he should have been given a run at the front end of the season, instead of forcing Skacel / Wright / the club mascot into an unfamiliar Left Back position. [bold]Perry & Lucketti[/bold], can’t command big transfer fee’s, not sure about wages though. [bold]Hammill:[/bold] Can’t believe we haven’t seen more of him this season. Don’t think he got his chance.
OVERRATED (I MAY BE INCURRING OTHER FANS WRATH HERE!)
[bold]Ostlund:[/bold] What has he ever actually done?! [bold]Licka:[/bold] Overrated, yes he’s been better under Pearson (simply because he has been given a chance) but what has he done? [bold]Viafara:[/bold] he’s had a poor season, last season at least it looked like he was trying, this time round it hasn’t.
DECENT SQUAD PLAYERS TO KEEP HOLD OF
[bold]Wayne Thomas.[/bold] Nothing spectacular but a decent bruising centre half. [bold]Safri:[/bold] One of the better ones this season. [bold]John:[/bold] we need someone along side him that’s going to score the same number of goals, no use leaving it all to John to do.
POTENTIAL STARS
[bold]Davies:[/bold] Club captain, premiership standard. [bold]Surman:[/bold] I know he can play better than he has been. [bold]Lalana:[/bold] please give him a chance next season. [bold]Baseya[/bold] (see Lalana comments)
GET RID
[bold]Powell:[/bold] Pearson has shown how easy it is to get better suited CB’s for the job. [bold]Idiakez:[/bold] He was enjoying some good form before he got injured earlier this season, but that in two years worth of efforts isn’t enough. Another one that should be better than what he has shown (when he isn’t injured)
LEAVING
[bold]Claus & Makin[/bold] retired [bold]Skacel & Rasiak[/bold well they’re going to be sold aren’t they?!
UNDECIDED
[bold]Dyer:[/bold] Wouldn’t be surprised if he leaves in the summer. Wouldn’t lose any sleep over losing him though. [bold]Saga:[/bold] Biggest underachiever of the season, certainly based on last season! [bold]Bradders:[/bold] The handbag stealing accusations to one side, has he done enough? [bold]McGoldrick:[/bold] hasn’t really been given a chance, but does he have a future at the club?
So IMO we have 10 players contracted to Southampton Football club, that are decent for this level of football! Clearly this isn’t good enough and we have a massive rebuilding job to do. I reckon Pearson is the man for the job. Judging by the loan signings he has made he has a far better idea of what is needed to get out of this league.

As a sth who has renewed with march madness im flamin releived to see us stay up but them important thing is that we need this club and all the muppets to sort themselves out. Lowe will be back in as hes scared of his shares thats all and wilde is his side kick who between them have no investment and the last thing we want is these two muppets back in. We must have investment from someone quickly as we will loose half our players some of which are crap any way and stayin up would seem for nothing. Fair play to crouch for standing firm but what has he done for us since being chairman and what can he do apart from convincing someone to come in before the crappy E.G.M. Cmon board members and shareholders wake up and see whats happening before its 2 late and its the supporters who are suffering not you.

I reckon Pearson is the man for the job. Judging by the loan signings he has made he has a far better idea of what is needed to get out of this league. [/quote] Yes I agree with nearly everything Wazza except for Davis I thought he played well in the second half of the season and is a reasonable Championship Goalie especially behind a settled defence.
Yes I agree about Richard Wright I think he is an England International and a Premiership Goalie my Saints Player of the season little chance of him being at SFC next season

I agree with Wazza on most of his points except:
Ostlund & Licka - I don't think they're over-rated, I think they're solid performers and when they play week in week out, they look settled and confident. They're nothing extra special but Licka does partner well with Vignal (who I'd like to see stay at SFC incidentally)
I'd like to see Saga stay as we all know what he can do - but he plays best with a player of Kenwyne Jones' ability and Stern John/BWP aren't that type of player - would like to see what Baseya can do...
Viafara - he's not had a good season but I think he's the kind of player who needs to be playing week in week out. Give him a chance.
In my opinion we should next year maybe stick with:
K Davies
Hopefully R Wright as No.1
Vignal
Ostlund
A Davies
Lucketti
Thomas
Perry?
J Wright
Safri
Viafara
Licka
Surman
Dyer/Hammill (Adam caused some teams real problems with his pace and fast-thinking)
Stern John
Saga
Lallana
Baseya
Can't see any major transfers in if the purse is almost empty, probably more out-goings than in-comings.
Who knows, apparently Pearson's already made a list of who he wants to keep so bring on the summer!
COYR!!

Davis is an ok keeper but they lack decent cover. The defence has shown a lack of confidence and made mistakes when Poke or Bialkowski have played.
Ostlund is a liability, making rash tackles and passing poorly.
Powell is too injury prone for a regular place.
Jermaine Wright has played well at right back in the last part of the season.
Surman and Euell have formed a useful left-sided partnership, a bit like Bridge and Marsden of the old days.
Hammill promises but uses the ball poorly.
It was interesting to see Viafara's lack of celebration when John scored his first - says a lot.
If someone offered around a million for Dyer I'd sell him - no brain on or off the pitch.
Idiakez is over-rated - count the number of his passes that don't reach a team- mate.
Really a number of players need replacing, probably by loanees or players out of contract; I've got faith in Pearson if he's given the chance.

Can't see Hammill coming back - the amount of football he got was criminal. Liverpool rate him pretty highly and are bound to want him to actually play wherever they send him out to next year.
As for the rest of them.......keep Surman, Davies, Lallana, John, Safri, Dyer, Perry and Thomas and ditch the rest because they're all useless.

Doen't really matter who we, the fans, want (or don't) want to keep the choices will be made by the accountants.
Anyone worth any money will be sold, whoever is left with the cheapest contracts will be next years team!
Our only hope for success beyond survival rests with some [bold]serious[/bold] investment in the club. Can't really see a queue forming waiting for Lowe to return, so realistically, another year of "same old, same old" is ahead.
Lowe has a lot of critcs (myself included) and with him back as chairman I think a lot of supporters will not be going back, so all in all bleak times ahead.
I hope I'm wrong!

Heroes? What rubbish. A word that is used too much for menial things. A few men kicking a ball about are not heroes. Saving a life, fighting in war and similiar are acts of heroism. Football players are just a bunch of people who struggle to make a proper sentence, over paid, and fame seeking no hopers who are not worthy of being called a hero.[/quote] Blah blah blah, whatever. Look, it's all relative and while we are all well aware what the definition of 'hero' is we are talking about things from a football perspective.
