TWO days on and I’m still drooling over the wonder that is Take That live.
Like a fine wine, Gary Barlow and Co. just seem to get better with age. OK so at times it’s a little bit like watching your Dad dancing, but the ‘man band’ really do put on an incredible show as I witnessed at Wembley Stadium this week.
The circus-themed tour sees Gary, Mark, Howard and Jason dress up in all manner of fabulous brightly-coloured costumes and join acrobats, drummers, tumblers, and clowns on stage.
There’s a gigantic mechanical elephant, very welcome freezing cold showers of water over the boys and into the crowd, fire bursting out of the stage during Relight My Fire and an impressive firework finale.
It was a true spectacle and, unlike the extortionate food and drink inside Wembley, I felt good value for money at £45 a ticket.
Those prices to see a top band at an amazing outdoor venue look like a bargain compared to a lot of gig prices.
I will reserve judgement until I see Bryan Adams at Southampton Guildhall on Tuesday, but charging a minimum of £60 to see his acoustic show does seem to be overpriced.
Still, like Take That, the gig is sold out, so he must be doing something right.
Even with one of my favourite cheesy classics Summer of ‘69 in his repertoire, I can’t imagine how a man and a guitar will put on a better show than ‘the That’. But seeing a legendary singer songwriter like Adams up close and personal in such an intimate venue should be pretty special too.
I suppose it’s all about getting as many different musical experiences as possible – as long as the purse strings allow.
