Big Brother is bowing out in blaze of glory

BIG Brother was of course the start of reality television and its demise could well be the beginning of the end.

The axing of some of these dreadful platforms for five-minute wonders is long overdue, but I have decided I will miss the ritual humiliation of celebrities.

And that’s all down to the brilliance that is the current Celebrity Big Brother.

I had thought this would be the final whimper of a dying genre.

After all, the biggest name they could muster was Vinnie Jones. The ex-footballer turned actor clearly thinks the whole thing is beneath him, but doesn’t mind picking up the rumoured £500,000 pay cheque.

But in fact the show is going out in a blaze of glory and I’m even warming to the housemates.

Tricks by the tree of temptation, including Dane’s pretend nightmare, Alex’s fight with a snowman and Nicola’s insults, have been absolute genius.

They say you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone and everyone including presenter Davina McCall, who went into the house earlier this week, seems to be relishing the final stand of the celebrity version of the show.

Big Brother started as a groundbreaking social experiment and has become a platform for looneys, but there was a lot of fun along the way.

I’ve no idea who will win the show tonight, nor do I much care.

I’m just hoping in a weird reality TV crossover, Alex Reid will dump Jordan in his exit interview.

Now that would be a classic moment in reality TV history.
