IT’S a little tough to think about digging out your tent, shorts and cowboy hat when there’s a foot of snow on the ground.

But the freezing conditions haven’t cooled my huge excitement about next year’s summer festival season in the south.

Isle of Wight and Bestival look to be the pick of the bunch anywhere after several super exciting announcements in the last couple of weeks.

Isle of Wight, the traditional start to the festival season in June, is to feature the delights of Kings of Leon, Pulp, Foo Fighters and Kasabian.

They’re four bands I’m terribly keen to see at the tenth anniversary party.

Even the detractors, who felt the acts were all too similar and didn’t provide Isle of Wight’s diverse tradition of the odd blast from the past, were soon subdued when a Tom Jones announcement followed.

Knicker sales on the island will no doubt be sent into the stratosphere next summer.

Best Major Festival winner Bestival, meanwhile, is to feature the only European festival appearance by music icons The Cure, plus slots from Primal Scream and Brian Wilson as they close the festival season in September.

Short of signing up my favourites Gary Barlow and co., who I actually think would go down brilliantly in front of a festival crowd, I don’t think John Giddings and Rob da Bank could have done any better.

I can hardly wait to pack the thermals away and dig out the flip flops. Roll on sunshine – and welly season.
