THEY do say ‘lucky at cards, unlucky in love’.
However, someone’s not read the script.
A secret love affair this week rocked the world of cribbage.
Details leaked out during trophy selection night and the Champion of Champions at Warren Social Club early on Thursday evening.
A 43-year-old man, known only as Ashley North, was revealed to be engaged to a local beauty, named locally as Paula Knott.
Despite trying to keep a lid on the affair, Ashley did let it slip during a Southampton & District Social Clubs League committee meeting a while back - but no one picked up on the news. It was probably hidden in his treasurer’s report.
Last month Ashley won the individual championship and on Thursday his Woolston T&L side, already Simonds Cup winners, edged the Champion of Champions final against Bitterne Park WMC A.
