TWENTY two of the 80 play-off places at the Cuestars South of England finals day on Sunday will be filled by players from in or around Southampton.
Young England stars and Chandler’s Ford SC clubmates Shane Castle and Jordan Winbourne meet in the last-16 of the Championship, just one of many mouth-watering ties at Jesters Snooker Hall, Swindon, in a day that promises high drama.
Town Champion Mike Finn (Eastleigh) plays Gavin Rogers (Poole), 18-year-old Billy Castle (Marchwood) takes on Andy Rogers (Newport, Wales), Ben Tanner (Boyatt Wood) faces Churchills A skipper Mark McLean and, in a repeat of the 2007 Town Championship final, Alex Dunkley (Bursledon) must again beat Adam Nash (Bitterne) to progress. The prize fund is £270.
A staggering nine local names have made the last-16 in the Under-21 Gold Championship.
Rankings winner Daniel Woods (Hedge End) meets Sam Thomas (Cardiff), Billy Castle takes on Danny Tallentire (Westbury), 15-year-old Winbourne faces Bradley Chappell (Bournemouth), Liam Burnet has been drawn against his Eastleigh Academy clubmate Ben Tanner, Sholing’s Lee Bell (Eastleigh) meets Lee Carlton (High Wycombe), 13-year-old Shane Castle is up against James Facey (Cardiff) and, in another local derby, Kevin Impett (Totton) faces 15-year-old Bouwe Bosma (Chandler’s Ford).
Three of the region’s youngsters qualified for the Under-21 Silver Championship.
Scott Sugden (Chandler’s Ford), who finished 17th in the rankings, has been called up to replace Carl Sidey (Basingstoke), who cannot attend. Sugden meets rankings winner Daniel Winfield (Player’s, Westbury). Robert Henley (Eastleigh) meets Dean Matthews (Reading) and Bradley Hatch (Eastleigh) faces Mark Lloyd (Gosport).
Mike Trigg (East Wellow) is our sole representative in the Bronze Championship. He meets Robert Harding (Farnborough).
And Neil Carroll (Rownhams) carries the flag in the Seniors event. He must overcome Paul Rose (Swindon).
World number 28 Ryan Day will present prizes.
