IT WAS a mixed week for Fawley accountant Jody Miles.
With his Ashlett Club C side trailing 2-0 at home in the Summer Bonanza to former champions Chandler’s Ford Longshots, Jody stopped the rot by defeating Rob Leech-Lewis.
And Jody was nominated to play the decider after his dad Nick beat Paul Solloway.
However, again paired with Rob in the fifth frame, Jody lost on the pink.
Hey ho.
Two days later he celebrated his 28th birthday. Oh yes, on the same day he became a daddy.
Mum Liana gave birth to daughter Seren at 7am on Wednesday. The bundle of joy weighed in at 6 lbs 15 ozs.
But back to the snooker.
Dave ‘Bernard’ Matthews led Dave Mumford by 34 points until the World Snooker coach and former Daily Echo champion rolled back the years and smacked in a 57 break.
Eyewitnesses say Mumford’s break should have been a lot more save for a shocking rest shot on an easy red.
Attempting to get position on the black, Mumford imparted too much side, miscued the shot and the red missed by about six inches.
But it was enough for the Longshots skipper to take first blood.
Mitch Wade doubled the visitors’ advantage against Kin Yau before the Miles family double act swung into action.
After son Jody had pulled one back, Nick Miles, still two days away from adding ‘grandad’ to his list of qualifications, edged Solloway on the black.
