Don't Want You Back For Good

BE careful what you wish for. You might end up disappointed.

I’m a massive fan of Take That, but a bit of nostalgic longing for a return to my teenage years led me to demand the return of Robbie to the fold.

That way I could transfer myself back to my School Prom and happily bop away to that old classic Relight My Fire in front of all my teen idols.

I was wrong.

Having seen them play their final UK date at Wembley Stadium last weekend, his likely departure can’t come soon enough.

It was dangerously close to becoming the Robbie Show throughout and his half-hour long solo set left my sister and I desperate to escape to the Pimm’s tent and with a stronger than usual longing to get Barlow back.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Robbie as a solo performer, but his huge ego suffocates the group. Howard and Jason for instance returned to the days when they were nothing more than backing dancers. And they won’t be able to get away with that forever.

Maybe, like them, I’m just getting old, but I really didn’t think Robbie’s constant swearing and sticking his fingers up at the audience were big or clever, especially not in front of a family audience.

The Progress tour fell a long way short of the truly impressive Circus tour two years ago and I feel the foursome have had to make too many concessions to have their wayward former bandmate back.

Frankly, I hope he’s not Back For Good.

You are so right - You cannot go back in time. I just hope Robbie hasn't finished them off for good. They were so much better as a 4-piece.

i've just come back from seeing them in Amsterdam. Im not a fan but the Mrs is, but i have to say i thought they were excellent but Robbie was incredibly good. Yes he has a massive ego, but for me it worked very well having him do a "mini" set. And maybe he's been spoken to about the swearing as there was just one "F" bomb dropped.

As for the others, they knew what to expect him coming back, they seemed comfortable enough with it. And banking over £1m each will ease any pain they may have.

Word verification... shot-nose! Nothing to do with him cancelling Saturday in Copenhagen is it... ;)
