HELLO utter humiliation. The Inbetweeners Movie hits cinemas this week and is rude and cringe-inducing with dozens of scenes that have the audience laughing out loud.
At first glance this world of shame, awkward moments and crudity doesn’t sound like the sort of entertainment that should be enjoyed by proper grown ups.
But this British coming of age flick is truly universal.
The Inbetweeners Movie is a goodnatured and really rather heart-warming love letter to lost childhood and coming of age.
It catalogues all the hysterical calamities from everyone’s favourite E4 misfits Will, Jay, Neil and Simon on their first lads trip abroad – and feels strangely reminiscent of the rather memorable girls holiday I once enjoyed in Malia. And not just because that’s where the film is set.
As six wide-eyed teenagers setting off on your classic 18-30 adventure, we encountered plenty of woeful chat up lines, drunken disasters and fishbowl cocktails.
There was an abundance of sunburn in awkward places, dreadful moves at the foam party and deathdefying leaps from the boat party catamaran.
The Inbetweeners Movie is hilarious, retains the TV show’s charming simplicity and is a wonderful reminder of being a teenager.
I’d recommend it to anyone not easily shocked.
It’s the British American Pie. But the childish gags are even better.
