Just when I thought the day couldn’t get any more bizarre

IT had already been a fairly unusual few days in Estonia. And then Jedward turned up.

A group of journalists and I, hosted by the tourist board, had eaten bear in a pitch-black medieval restaurant, painted marzipan bananas in a chocolate factory and packed into the toilets of the Scotland Yard bar to marvel at how they had been turned into electric chairs.

So I didn’t really think the evening could take any more bizarre twists.

Then up popped the X Factor twins with the gigantic hair on our city centre hotel corridor.

In town to check out venues for an Estonian tour, they were said to be keeping a low profile - or as low as it can be when dressed in a spangly silver jumpsuit.

Probably not the best time to bump into a group of British journalists, but they were very pleasant nonetheless.

Hordes of teenagers had gathered in the hotel lobby hoping for a glimpse of their heroes, but that was nothing compared to a planned appearance in Tallinn’s Viru shopping centre.

The duo were forced to cancel their appearance on police advice after 3,000 rowdy fans showed up to get their autographs.

An alarming amount of globalisation, you might think. But no, the Estonians are not hooked on Jedward because they enjoyed their bizarre X Factor appearances or were spellbound by their antics in the Big Brother house.

They’re just utterly obsessed with the Eurovision Song Contest.

Now the world really has gone mad.
