RICHIE Staines is amazing because he does things no one else can do.

So says Drew Farminer, skipper of Romsey Comrades Club B pool team.

Staines, who plays for defending champions Riverside Club, was unavailable for comment.

Farminer’s brand new side has yet to taste defeat. Nine league wins and a 40-minute cup win has left the squad in buoyant mood.

But the skipper maintains the competition is the hardest he’s ever faced.

“I’ve played in a lot of pool leagues and this is the best one I’ve played in,” he said. “It’s been very tough. There’s at least five or six sides who can all beat us. We have to play pretty special.

“The Warren are probably our main challengers this season; the British Legion; the Riverside. Woolston have got a very good side, they’re underrated, and Hedge End A. The other side here, they’re no mugs either. They can certainly turn anyone over.

“The Southampton league is much, much stronger.

“Richie Staines at Riverside is an amazing player. I’ve never seen anyone do the things with the cue-ball that he does.”
