Well I’m still plugging away and about to reach a big milestone. Half way which means I will have done once around the equator. I can’t really comprehend how much has taken to get there but I wont of been able to do it without a lot of support. My powerbreathe comes in very handy especially with the early starts as the 30 breaths routine helps me get warmed.
There couldn't be more of a contrast between one week and the next.
Ok I have had the most varied couple of months in years. Going back to earlier in the year I was lucky enough to have a media pass for the boatrace. The reason why? Was to get some blogging done for the World Junior rowing champs in August, this is an event which is an test event for London 2012. I was fortunate enough to meet with Cambridge head coach Steve Trapmore. He had rowed at the world juniors earlier in his career before going on to win Olympic gold in 2000.
So two weeks after I completed the Chicago marathon I took part in the Great South Run as part of the Ellen Macarthur Trust Team.
Nobody likes getting up at 4.20am but thankfully I have nothing to panic about. My bags are all packed and ready to go. Just waiting for my taxi to arrive to begin my fourteen hour journey to Chicago for the marathon. A long way to go for a race but as I was to find out later nothing compared to the journeys some others would have to make. Aboard the plane I had nothing but my mp3 to keep me company. The only film that was in English and had sound was the awful horse face and the Botox bunch 2 (Sex and the city 2 to others). Arriving in Chicago it was really warm but hang on a minute !? This is October. I then saw one of the guys had come over with his racing wheel chair. I was to get to know Michael later but he had done so on his own relying on the kindness of strangers to make his was forward although he was very independent.
So I trapped a nerve in my back meaning that I didn’t finish the JOGLE ride but I got lots out of the experience to take things forward for next year. I also managed to have a chat with Greg Whyte the man who trained and got ready David Walliams when he swum across the channel. Greg gave me some key advice in moving forward and motivating myself for my challenges.
Ok I have never contemplated climbing up mount Everest amongst other things it is too high at 29,000 foot it is too high. However cycling the equivalent of twice up takes some thinking about. This is what I will be doing by cycling from John O Groats to Lands End this Saturday. All the hills I have to climb in the nine days amount to 73,187 foot. The schedule starting on the 12th June:
