A MAN previously quizzed over the murder of the widow of a Basingstoke coffee merchant was re-bailed yesterday morning after being arrested for the second time on Thursday January 6.

The 32 year-old had been re-arrested by detectives leading the hunt to find the killer of Hampshire grandmother Georgina Edmonds.

The 77-year-old Mrs Edmonds was tortured, stabbed and then battered to death with a rolling pin at her home in Kiln Lane, Brambridge, on January 11, 2008. Her body was found by her son Harry.

Mrs Edmonds was the widow of Basingstoke coffee merchant Harry Edmonds. Their son Harry runs The Edmonds Group, a coffee merchant's which had an office in Paddington House in Festival Place, Basingstoke.

Detectives initially arrested the 32-year-old suspect in June last year at the home he shared with his mother in Bishopstoke.

Another property, a flat in The Crescent, Eastleigh, where he was living at the time of the murder, was also searched by teams of police.

The 32 year-old man had been due to answer bail next week on the third anniversary of the murder, which happened on January 11 2008.

However he was arrested for the second time on Thursday January 6 as he made his daily appearance at a police station as part of his strict bail conditions.

He was re-interviewed by detectives leading the inquiry into the murder of Mrs Edmonds and he has now been re-bailed.
